This is a beautiful-condition original early-1970s Yamaha FG-160-1 Black Label acoustic guitar. The label reads "
Yamaha FG-160-1 – Republic of China – Made in Taiwan
." Some people from the Yamaha online group suggested that this is a 1972 and a few suggested 1974. You'll have to use your own judgement from looking at the serial number. It's definitely in the early 1970s.
It has the original Yamaha tuners and the frets seem to be in excellent condition. The strings are very close around the first frets (looks to be normal spacing). The spacing at the last fret seems to be a little bit high. I can fit 4 dimes between the fret and the string and it pushes the string up a little bit so I'd say the thickness of 3.5 dimes would be the distance between the fret and the string.
The guitar looks to be original. There are just a very little bit of pick marks on the guard. The surface of the guitar is very nice. There is only one noticeable scratch just above the sound hole over a little bit to the right (see the third to last photo). The sides are excellent. The back has some very minor fine scratches but definitely does not have any belt buckle gouges. There are no cracks or large flaws in this guitar at all. Someone really took great care of it.
I have not done anything to it except clean the surface. The chrome on the tuners could use a little bit of polish and they would look like new. I added a brand new set of Veritas strings and it sounds absolutely amazing. All the frets play beautifully. I don't see any problems anywhere on this guitar. A really nice one especially for being almost 50 years old. It came in the original black case that was probably from the early 1970s. The case is nothing special but will help protect the guitar during transit.
40" in overall length of the guitar
4" thick
16" wide at the widest
11" wide near the beginning of the fretboard
4"-diameter sound hole
12" from the nut to the center of the 12th fret
24" scale
Please ask if you have any specific questions or need additional photos.
